Cringing a bit today.
You know when you suddenly see something clearly and feel a bit silly because it took so long to realise? That.
Deep breath…
I thought I wasn’t allowed to write about myself.
As a sales copywriter, rule 1 is “They don’t care about you. They just want to know what’s in it for them”.
That’s true.
But I somehow made a ‘sales copy rule’, “The Law of Writing Online”.
With “The Law of Writing Online” meaning ‘Remember the Storyselling Framework’ EVERY time.
Sales posts DO have to focus on the benefits to buyers, not you, the writer.
Every word you write online - posts/emails, comments, messages and copy ARE marketing for your business.
Potential clients will come towards you or pull back, based on what they see of your words and sense from your energy. That’s all good.
I had got my dots joined up all wrong about the HUMAN interest aspect,
I[‘m a proper nosey.
I DEVOUR other people’s life experiences.
I wanna read about your life. It just hadn’t occurred to me that you might enjoy reading about mine too.
I know, right?!
So what changed?
Well, it’s been several things over past couple of weeks…
Shift #1: The Astrology
I subscribe to half a dozen different Astrologers and read their messages daily.
One of them, Kirsty Gallagher, (NOT the TV presenter!) sends daily messages in her broadcast channel.
Recently, they’ve talked a lot about how we are in a period of profound shifts, a reset, and need to let go of old beliefs.
Which layered on top of…
Shift #2: This Substack
The idea to start a Substack has been bubbling in the background for a few months.
I planned to call it, “The A-List Affiliate” to align with my trademarked authentic affiliate sales system and marketing method that I teach in my “A-List Affiliate Accelerator” program.
A week ago today, my Inner Authority shouted at me to, “START YOUR SUBSTACK TODAY” and whispered to me, “This is your clean slate. Write what you want!”
Okayyyy.
I went ahead and set this up to be about affiliate marketing. But something was niggling me. It felt off, like it wasn’t the full picture.
So, I asked myself, “If this is my clean slate, what Do I really want to talk about?”
The conversation went like this:
“Who really are you?”
I’m lazy. I’ll find the shortcut if there is one.
I’m funny. I love me a pun and some word play.
I’m passionate about helping people who think they can’t, realise they can.
“Define ‘people.’”
Well, it’s people who perceive they have something that limits them. It might be age, previous experiences, neuro-divergence, childcare, illness.
If they’ve ever thought, “It’s alright for them, but I …”? That.
I do often wonder if I have all these impairments because I’m supposed to be an extreme example of ‘impaired’.
That perhaps I’m here to educate and demonstrate what’s possible.
“Okay. What’s the real reason you are ‘lazy’?”
It’s how I preserve my energy so I can consistently do the things I want to do.
I’m not legit lazy. I’m ‘spoon saving’.
“What if your Substack becomes the place where you speak to other people who want to save their spoons, explore what’s possible and learn about and from you? Will you write what you want, how you want?”
Yeeeeees… Eek.
“And what if we gave it a name with a dollop of fun and a play on words?”
YEAH! Like, “A Spoonie Full”.
And here we are!
Shift #3: You
I launched this Substack with three posts ready to read.
One to tell you about the passive income model that crushes all others for Spoonies.
One was a motivational reminder to stop apologising for your perceived ‘limitations’,
The third was my story of living with physical, sight and hearing impairments.
The one where I asked the universe to come up with the title and at 4am, I was given, “The Iron, The B*tch and The Floordrobe”.
The data pool is still small but the results significant.
It’s the third one, the story of me that got the most interaction.
Confirmation.
And then, this weekend, I did an audit of the types of Substacks (is that what we call these posts?) and social media posts/emails that I enjoy.
I realised I love it when I can read a combination of ‘this is me’ and ‘this is what I know’.
More confirmation.
The final piece of evidence which hammered the last nail into this flat-pack ‘Confirmation Cupboard’ was reading my friend, Caroline Ferguson’s Substack. (I’m still not sure that’s the right word, y’know?)
For a few minutes, I was engrossed in her story of caring for ageing parents and how, as a family, they will navigate this.
As I reached the end, the truth smacked me square between the eyes.
The story was allll about her and her family.
And I LOVED it!
Right there, I got the message.
In true Generator style, reading her words activated my compulsion to respond and jet propelled me here to write this post (or Substack) to you.
And so we begin another week… with Mercury in Retrograde.
Tech and travel are gonna go awry for the next few weeks.
Upside is that it’s an aligned time for all the ‘re’ words - like, reflect, refine, reset.
Got anything brewing to ‘re-ing’ a shift in your world?
Despite being in your world for ...like forever, I only know snippets of your story, so it's lovely to find out more about the REAL you x
Love this Veronica - yes, I want to know more about YOU please :)
